Holidays: Nov. 12th - 18th
Patrick Lancer, Saturday November 11th, 2006Here at Overdue Karma, we celebrate life everyday (no, really, we do!) but here are some excuses for you to cut loose and take a day off from work this week:

November 12th: Sunday is "Chicken Soup for the Soul" Day. Ala the 1998 book by the same name, this holiday is no doubt a creation of a business-minded publisher. However, it is still a good excuse to go out and eat (or drink, whatever) a nice hot bowl of chicken noodle soup.
November 13th: Here's one for you old-timers: Monday is Sadie Hawkin's Day. I, for one, have never heard of this bizarre celebration. However, I have found out that is originated from a cartoon strip called "Lil' Abner". The way it works is, there is a race in which all the single men run with a brief head start from the women. If a woman catches up to a man of her choice, she tags him and they have to marry. Lookout for that quick, ugly chick!
November 14th: Tuesday is "Young Readers'" Day. You always hear parents say, "Sally is only five, but she reads at n eight year-old level." But you never hear adults say, "I'm only thirty, but I read at a thirty-four year-old level." I think that no matter what age you are, you can crack open a good book any day of the year. Awww.
November 15th: Wednesday this week has a combination of three strange holidays. "Clean Out the Refrigerator" Day, "America Recycles" Day, and "National Philanthropy" Day are all on the same date. Here is my theory: We clean out our refrigerators and recycle the old food by being philanthropic and giving it to the poor. Nice way to kill three birds with one stone, eh?
November 16th: This Thursday is "Have a Party with Your Bear" Day. Now anyone reading this is no doubt intelligent enough to realize that it probably means your teddy bear, but let's say, for a moment, that someone though it meant a real bear. I wonder if there is any correlation between this day and bear-mauling deaths in the U.S.A.
November 17th: Well, congratulations, you have made it to Friday again. It is your chance to take a break… NOT! This Friday is "World Peace" Day. I am strictly against holidays that require any work, but how can I be against World Peace? It's time to buy that plane ticket to the Middle-East and begin preaching the ways of co-existence and happiness, right? Yah, well, good luck with that.
November 18th: Saturday is Occult Day. I don't know exactly what this is. From my research you can either go out to watch the eclipse… or get sacrificed in a bizarre pagan ritual. Either way, your friends here at Overdue Karma want you to stay safe this weekend. Have a good one!
